This church was founded by the grace of God through these two people who God sent in the persons of Chief I.A. Adeniyi and Mr. Mathew Toogun. They were used as an instrument by God in the establishment of First Baptist Church Oke-Odo. Chief I.A. Adeniyi who was the chairman and caretaker of the town at that time went to see Dcn Toogun for an important matter concerning the welfare of Oke-Odo Township.
After the discussion, it tilted towards religious talk and the Deacon affirmed his religion as being a Christian. He further asked after the church the Deacon was attending, to which the Deacon replied, First Baptist Church, Mushin.
Rev. Adeniyi also indicated that he was also a member of Araba Baptist Church, Ilasamaja. This then brewed the need to plant a church in Oke-Odo environment. Steps were taken to invite Araba Baptist Church to mother the Church. Araba Baptist Church yielded to the call and hence the journey of First Baptist Church Oke-Odo began in 1980. This two people moved ahead and agreed that the following Sunday the church will commence with her first service. This was held at the living room of Rev. Adeniyi with four families in attendance. These are the Adeniyi’s, Toogun’s Popoola’s and Alasade’s .
Thereafter a co-ordinator for the Worship center was sought and Deacon M.O. Toogun volunteered to lead the people of God. They all unanimously agreed with these and the book of Acts 5:1-11 was read to conclude the service.
The following Sunday, Rev. Adeniyi asked the church to move to his brother’s place which was Deacon Ayoola’s place. There the church worshiped for some months before a suggestion that a landed property from the property marked out for low income earners be bought. The mother church was informed and they agreed to this. This was how the church relocated to Old Otta Road .
The church was built and the government later decided to build a school at the site because both the community and government had agreed that Oke-Odo High School should be located at that site. The church was on that land for five years (present Oke-Odo High School). There was so much pressure and the church decided not to contest the government’s decision. Pa Olu Olakojo identified the property directly opposite the site. This was owned by lawyer Akinboro. The mother church agreed with the decision to acquire the landed property and hereby relocated to the new site.
During that period the church was lead by Deacons from the mother church, Late Rev, Erinosho, Dcn Toogun, Rev. Dr I.A Adeniyi, Dcn Ayoola, Dcns Odebunmi, Dcn Adeyemi, Pa Olu Olakojo and Dcn Faleti.
In 1990, Rev Ogunleye got a call into the pastorate of the church . He was the pastor of the church for 10 years. Thereafter, he retired and the church was lead by Dcn Matthew .O Toogun for a years until the church called Rev Samuel Olubayo Adeleye into her pastorate. Rev Samuel Olubayo Adeleye was the pastor of the church for 11 years and under him great expansion happened numerically and spiritually in the church. The church started its English service, teenagers church and other programmes were introduced for the spiritual benefit of the church. The church also moved from the main church into the car park of the new auditorium in 2011. In 2013,Rev Samuel Olubayo Adeleye , left the pastorate of the church and the church continued under the leadership of the Deaconate chairman, Dcn. Dr. Olukemi Oyetubo. She lead the church for 26months and the Lord blessed the church. During this period, the church moved into the new main auditorium, numerical and spiritual expansion was observed.
In August 2015, Pastor Isaac Adetunji Obadeyi was called into the pastorate of the church. Through him, the Lord is moving his people forward from glory to glory.
